Why Put Time into your Marriage?

Because, Honestly? Nothing else is that Important

This blog has two topics really.  If the subjects seem a bit disparate, I promise that I’ll tie them together in the end.

Firstly, I want you to understand how vital your primary relationships are.  Close relationship bonds are critical for our health, for our general well being and for our happiness.  It will seriously help you to appreciate what I’m saying, if you watch this TED talk.   It discusses some of the results from a really significant study done by the Harvard School of Life Studies, over an 80 year period, on this very subject.   Go here:  Harvard TED Talk  It’s fascinating and it’s well worth your time.  This will help to convince you that the relationship you share with your spouse is likely to be the most important endeavor of your life.

This is why you should put time into your marriage!

But keep in mind that a successful marriage is often not an easy project.  Maintaining harmony and giving your partner the attention and the love and support they need requires real commitment in time, learning the  skills that you need to master.  And yet most couples put more effort into maintaining their cars and homes than they do their marriage.

Secondly, now follow me here, how do you get really good at something?  How much work do you need to put in to become really good at, say golf?  At running a successful business?  At anything, for that matter:   Skiing,  martial arts, playing a musical instrument?  How do you perfect a skill?  It’s a rhetorical question really, because I’m sure you know the answer:  It’s time and it’s practice.

To become proficient at playing a musical instrument may well require you to practice for hours every day for many years to reach any level of competency.  Not so the skills required to keep a marriage alive and a partner happy.  A caring spouse will pick these skills up quickly if they know where to learn them.

Now here’s my point:  Marriage is almost certainly the most significant life  investment you will ever make.   And the return on your investment can be life changing.  If what is needed to establish a home and a sanctuary for you, your spouse and your children, is to learn a few skills: Like how to treat your partner with love and respect and how to put love first, then why wouldn’t you?  Why wouldn’t any of us?

My deep respect for the power of love and for the commitment of couples to their relationships is why I do what I do.  My years of working in this field have given me the knowledge to help couples to repair their distressed marriages.   And I’m able to impart the necessary skills to enable them to restore the affection that once was so strong.

Please get in contact with me, I’d love to talk to you.
